How do I chose a crystal ?
A recurring question I very often get from the clients is: how do I choose a crystal, and how do I know which crystal is right for me, which one is needed? In this post I will try to answer this question in a simple and clear way for those who want to get in touch with the magic of crystals, but do not know which mineral to choose.
Choosing a mineral has become difficult, simply because there have been and still are all sorts of ways of selecting minerals, such as: choosing a crystal based on the mineral’s description (or the mineral’s main theme), choosing a crystal based on astrology (based on the signs of the zodiac, the planets), selecting stones based on health problems, choosing crystals for women, for men, for children and so on.
There are certainly more choices than I have already listed here, but I will advise you to use a completely different method and I promise you it will be very simple, but at the same time very effective! I will always advise everyone to choose the crystal first – by beauty. Yes, you read that absolutely correctly. This method is very similar to how you choose any other jewellery, because you always choose the most beautiful jewellery, don’t you? In this case, I advise you to do exactly the same.
By choosing in this way, you will not only choose the most beautiful crystal for yourself, but also the one you need at this moment in your life. When you choose based on beauty, you intuitively choose the crystal you need most. And to prove it to you, try this experiment: choose the most beautiful crystal to your eye and then read the description of the crystal, exactly what it has. Many (if not all) customers will tell you: “Try it and you’ll be surprised how simple and yet accurate it is”.
In the second place, I would advise you to choose a crystal according to the description of that mineral, according to the general characteristics of that crystal. Indeed, all crystals have many recurring properties (for example, many crystals are calming, relaxing) so it can sometimes seem that all the descriptions are about the same thing. At least for me it seemed like that at the beginning, but as I got to know the crystals more and more, it became easier and easier to distinguish which crystal represents which theme or area of life. For this reason, I still advise choosing a crystal by the first method, i.e. choosing a mineral by its beauty.
In the online shop, each crystal is accompanied by a description of that crystal. These are general characteristics of the crystal, but are certainly not definitive. In your case, the crystal may “work” in a different way that has not been described, so you may get some pleasant surprises (there is a reason why the gold bead is engraved with the text “Expect Miracles”).
These mentioned ways of choosing the crystal are perhaps the best ones for an individual, hence in the near future I will put more popular ways on choosing the right stone for your personality and needs.
How others choose ?
1. Intended Purpose or Healing Properties
- Emotional Healing: Crystals like Rose Quartz and Amethyst are ideal for emotional healing. Rose Quartz fosters love and self-acceptance, while Amethyst helps with emotional stability and stress relief.
- Protection: Black Tourmaline, Hematite, and Onyx are great for protecting against negative energies. These stones are also grounding, making them suitable for people who feel overwhelmed or scattered.
- Abundance & Prosperity: Citrine and Pyrite are popular choices for those who want to attract wealth, abundance, or career success.
- Calming & Anxiety Relief: Lepidolite and Aquamarine have calming properties that make them suitable for anxiety relief or times of high stress.
- Spiritual Growth: Labradorite and Clear Quartz are used for enhancing intuition, spiritual growth, and connecting with higher consciousness.
2. Zodiac Sign or Birthstone
- Many people choose crystals based on their astrological sign or birthstone:
- Aries: Bloodstone, Carnelian, Jasper
- Taurus: Rose Quartz, Jade, Green Aventurine
- Gemini: Agate, Citrine, Tiger’s Eye
- Cancer: Moonstone, Selenite, Emerald
- Leo: Sunstone, Citrine, Amber
- Virgo: Amazonite, Fluorite, Peridot
- Libra: Lapis Lazuli, Rose Quartz, Labradorite
- Scorpio: Obsidian, Garnet, Malachite
- Sagittarius: Turquoise, Sodalite, Amethyst
- Capricorn: Garnet, Onyx, Smoky Quartz
- Aquarius: Amethyst, Labradorite, Aquamarine
- Pisces: Amethyst, Aquamarine, Fluorite
3. Chakra Alignment
- Crystals can be selected to balance specific chakras:
- Root Chakra: Hematite, Black Tourmaline, Smoky Quartz—grounding and stabilizing.
- Sacral Chakra: Carnelian, Orange Calcite—helps creativity, passion, and energy.
- Solar Plexus Chakra: Citrine, Tiger’s Eye—boosts confidence, motivation, and willpower.
- Heart Chakra: Rose Quartz, Green Aventurine—promotes love, compassion, and emotional healing.
- Throat Chakra: Sodalite, Aquamarine—enhances communication, self-expression, and clarity.
- Third Eye Chakra: Amethyst, Lapis Lazuli—boosts intuition, wisdom, and inner vision.
- Crown Chakra: Clear Quartz, Amethyst—connects to higher consciousness and spiritual growth.
4. Intuition or Attraction
- Some people choose crystals based purely on their intuition or what they feel naturally attracted to. Often, the right stone is the one that visually appeals to you or “feels right” when held. This approach is more about trusting instinct rather than relying on specific properties.
5. Emotional and Personality Traits
- Different crystals have energies that can complement personality traits or help balance certain tendencies:
- Sensitive and Empathetic Individuals: Moonstone, Labradorite, or Amethyst to stay emotionally balanced.
- Highly Stressed Individuals: Blue Lace Agate, Lepidolite, or Fluorite to reduce anxiety and calm the mind.
- Courage and Confidence Seekers: Tiger’s Eye, Carnelian, or Citrine to help boost assertiveness and drive.
6. Health and Physical Well-being
- Crystals are also believed to support physical health and healing:
- Fluorite is often used to boost concentration and decision-making, which may benefit those who need mental sharpness for study or work.
- Bloodstone and Carnelian are believed to promote vitality, energy, and physical strength.
7. Color Preferences
- Color has a psychological impact, and certain colors may evoke different moods or states:
- Pink Stones (like Rose Quartz) represent love and tenderness.
- Green Stones (like Jade and Aventurine) symbolize prosperity and health.
- Blue Stones (like Sodalite and Aquamarine) are calming and help with communication.
- Yellow Stones (like Citrine) signify happiness, joy, and optimism.
8. Astrological Events or Spiritual Phases
- Certain crystals may be chosen based on moon phases or astrological events:
- Full Moon: Crystals like Moonstone, Selenite, or Amethyst can enhance intuition and facilitate emotional release.
- New Moon: Labradorite or Black Obsidian may be used to help manifest new beginnings or set goals.
9. Physical Hardness for Jewelry
- The Mohs hardness of a crystal may also determine whether it’s a good fit for a bracelet. Stones that are too soft (e.g., below Mohs 5) can be easily scratched or damaged, making them less suitable for frequent wear. Stones like Amethyst (hardness 7) or Quartz are more durable for bracelets, while softer stones like Turquoise require extra care.
10. Cultural or Spiritual Significance
- Many people choose crystals based on cultural or spiritual traditions. For example:
- Jade is highly valued in Asian cultures for prosperity and good health.
- Turquoise is believed by Native American cultures to bring protection and good fortune.
- Lapis Lazuli was often used by ancient Egyptians and is associated with wisdom and royalty.
11. Combination of Crystals
- Some people choose multiple crystals for their bracelet to create a specific energy combination. Examples include:
- Amethyst and Rose Quartz for balancing love and inner peace.
- Black Tourmaline and Clear Quartz for protection and clarity.
- Carnelian, Citrine, and Tiger’s Eye to boost motivation, success, and energy.
Summary
The choice of crystals for a bracelet depends on a mix of personal preference, spiritual and emotional needs, zodiac alignment, intuition, color, and cultural beliefs. Whether someone is looking to enhance love, seek protection, reduce stress, or even just find a color they love, there is a crystal that fits their unique personality and goals. By aligning their intention with a particular stone, individuals can create personalized jewelry that is both beautiful and meaningful.
